This story has been making the rounds in the U.S. over the past week. Seems like everyone in my office is doing this (excepting me).

Etiquette Expert Weighs In On Shoes

BOSTON -- Once a cool, cheap slip-on for the beach, the flip-flop is now the hottest trend in footwear.
President George W. Bush was photographed this week with the Champion Lacrosse team from Northwestern University, many of whom were wearing flip-flops.
If your idea of a flip-flop is the rubbery Woolworth's type, footwear has changed, reported WCVB-TV.
Flip flips, or thongs, as they once were called, are all grown up, in all shapes and sizes.
And fashion trend setters insist they fit just fine with formal or informal wear, at work or the beach.
"The young and the hip of all ages are buying flip flops. You want to dress it up, or dress it down, that's why they are so popular -- the versatility of them," Lord and Taylor spokeswoman Colleen Harkins said.
"I have about 12 pair, from casual to dressy. I wear the dressier ones to work," one woman said.
Judging from a sidewalk survey, so do many others.
"I wear them to work all the time, going to work as we speak," one man said.
"I wear them to the prom, to homecoming, and they're comfy under dresses," another person said.
From Gucci to Burberry, designers are spewing flip-flops out faster than office managers can say dress code. But etiquette expert Jodi Smith said, "toe the line."
"In a more conservative office, thongs are not a good choice. But if you are in a very casual, hip, young environment, if your boss wears flip-flops, watch what kind they wear. You want to know where you are going and you want to match either your host or your boss," Smith said.

In office people should always dress PROPERLY. So, for ladies, only PUMPS
:D:D
But in any case...i really DONT like flip flops. I find them so...so....sooo...ugly! No matter WHO is wearing them, i just DON'T like them!

Some companies are just becoming more casual in the workplace. Of course if I was boss I WOULD NOT tolerate it. Hose and dippable shoes would be MANDATORY NO MATTER HOW HOT IT IS! LOL!

It's very popular at my office, although there are a few stylish females who still wear pumps or mules (no stockings though).
FF - for the best office environment my I suggest the following:
1. Dress code for females makes hose mandatory.
2. Thick, soft carpeting for all the floors.
3. Cool temps to make the hose more practical.
4. Footrest or footstool under all of the ladies desks.
5. Good performance is rewarded with a gift certificate for a pedicure at a spa.

I don't mind em, but they along with slides take away the woman's foot getting hot, and having to dip and air out.

DP, I'm down with EVERYTHING you've said. That would such a cool idea for ALL these companies to follow... of course that would be wishful thinking.
As far as flip-flops goes... I'M F@#$%&G TIRED OF THEM! Period. I see some women (especially young girls) wear them in the cold. Now tell me, how stupid can you be?

I agree that many companies are getting more casual in their dresscode. The good news is that many of the larger companies still require their salespeople to dress up at least a little. I took a little tour through HP once when I was being interviewed (not for sales) and the hottest looking young women were in sales, and they were all wearing either slacks or a skirt and heels, although not all were wearing hose. They guys were all wearing dress shirts, a tie, and dress shoes. Some were wearing coats and some weren't. I guess it was optional. This was during the summer last year.
The other employees were wearing a variety of footwear, but none were wearing beach sandals. If I was an employer, I would require at least a med heel slide or pumps. I love hose on women, but nowadays it may be considered unreasonable since it is so warm. I like the idea of turning the ac down to 60 degrees!
